The Zube TubeTM consists of an acoustic coil stretched between two plastic resonators which are inserted into the ends of a tube. Vibrations on the coil travel back and forth along the coil creating the echo effect. The vibrations are mechanically amplified by the plastic reasonators at the ends of the tube and by the resonant cavity inside the tube.
The vibrations on the coil may be created in various ways. For example, shaking the tube, thereby causing the coil to strike the side of the tube or the individual coils to strike one another, or plucking the coil will create vibrations on the coil. Also, making sounds into one of the plastic resonators will cause the resonator to vibrate, which in turn will transfer vibrations to the acoustic coil.
One of the most unusual sounds is created by holding the Zube TubeTM vertically and shaking it up and down at just the right frequency (about 6 shakes every second) to cause the creation of eerie pulses of sound. In this case the up-and-down motion of the tube causes a twisting motion in the acoustic coil, producing the vibrations.
